Nigeria’s West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates.
At a briefing on Monday, Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC Nigeria, revealed that 1,814,736 candidates registered for the exam across 25,126 secondary schools.
According to him, “1,685,889 candidates (93.39%) have their results fully processed and released 119,327 candidates (6.61%) have partial results due to ongoing issues, but these are expected to be resolved soon.”
“The exam was also administered to candidates in Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea, who follow the Nigerian curriculum,” he said.
Dangut stressed that 109,115 candidates with special needs took the exam and their results have been processed and released along with others.
He highlited the perfomance as following, 1,332,089 candidates (73.79%) achieved credit and above in at least five subjects. 1,301,941 candidates (72.12%) obtained credits in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Among those who met the criteria, 48.30% were male and 51.70% were female. There was a 7.69% decrease in performance compared to the previous year.
The results of 215,267 candidates (11.92%) have been withheld due to reported malpractices or state-sponsored candidates with unpaid fees.
Dr. Dangut emphasized that results and certificates will be available online, with certificates issued 48 hours after the request, provided financial obligations are met.
