The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) sealed a feather-processing facility in the Sawmill area of Ibadan over persistent environmental nuisance and offensive odour.

The facility, Henry Sam Multipurpose Enterprises, was shut down following several complaints from residents and passersby about unbearable stench emanating from its operations.

According to the Authority, the facility had been served two abatement notices by relevant environmental authorities, directing the operators to reduce production and make arrangements to relocate from the residential area. Despite the notices, the offensive odour persisted, prompting further enforcement action.

During the operation, the enforcement team, working with security operatives, shut down the facility. The action was initially met with resistance from individuals at the premises, but security operatives brought the situation under control. The owner of the facility was directed to report to the OYRLEA office for further directives.

In related operations on the same day, the Authority impounded 13 cows found roaming freely on a major road around Aleshinloye Market, Ibadan, following a distress call from concerned residents.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with security operatives in line with the Oyo State Anti-Open Rearing and Grazing Law, 2019, as part of efforts to address threats to public safety and free movement of road users posed by open grazing.

Similarly, the OYRLEA team, alongside health officers from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, responded to environmental complaints in the Yawiri area of Akobo, Ibadan.

At Yawiri, the team revisited a premises that had been the subject of repeated complaints and previous interventions. The premises was sealed by health officers to address the recurring environmental concerns.

The team also inspected two other premises in the same area that had previously been served abatement notices and confirmed that both had complied with the directives.

The day’s operations underscore OYRLEA’s ongoing commitment, in collaboration with relevant agencies and security operatives, to enforce existing laws, respond promptly to public complaints and curb environmental violations across the state.

The Authority urged residents to continue to report cases of unlawful open grazing and environmental nuisances for timely intervention.
