The Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta, His Eminence Alhaji (Dr.) Dawud Makanjuola Akinola (De-Damak), has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR.

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Faysol Oluwakemi, the Aare Musulumi described both men as exceptional leaders who left lasting legacies in Nigeria’s political and traditional spheres.

He praised former President Buhari for his decades of national service first as military head of state in the 1980s and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.

He highlighted Buhari’s efforts in governance, security, and anti-corruption, and extended condolences to his family, the government and people of Katsina State, and the Muslim community across Nigeria.

On the passing of Oba Adetona, who died at age 91 on July 13, 2025, the Aare Musulumi described the late monarch as a legendary royal figure, a devout Muslim, and a bold advocate for community development.

He noted Oba Adetona’s historic reign since 1960 and his role as the first Amīr-ul-Mulūk-il-Muslimīn of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States.

The Aare Musulumi extended sympathies to the royal family of Ijebuland, the Ogun State government, and the Muslim Ummah, praying that Allah grants the late Awujale Al-Jannah Firdaus.

He urged Nigerians and traditional leaders to honour the legacies of both men by promoting unity, peace, and selfless service across all divides.
