The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Wuse Zone 6 has issued a summons to popular Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh and her bodyguard, identified as Gbenga, over allegations of assault and trespass.
The case, numbered CR/359/2024, was filed by Elvis Abuyere, the Chief Executive of Skyewise Group Limited, an Abuja-based car dealership company.
According to the court summons dated August 6, 2024, Magistrate Iyanna ordered both defendants to appear before the court on August 24, 2024, to address the charges.
The allegations stem from an incident in January when Dikeh reportedly approached the car company to purchase a brand-new Changan Uni-K 2023 model from Mikano Motors. The complainant, who is in a dealership agreement with Mikano, made a full payment of N85 million to Mikano, with an understanding that Dikeh would settle the balance in installments over three months after receiving the car.
Dikeh’s initial payment included her used 2008/2009 Lexus, valued at N37 million, followed by an additional payment of N3.5 million. However, by the end of April, Dikeh had not cleared the balance, breaching the agreement.
On May 1, after unsuccessful attempts to recover the outstanding payment, Abuyere retrieved the vehicle. Subsequently, Dikeh made further payments totaling N42 million, leaving an outstanding balance of N2.1 million.
The actress and her bodyguard are also accused of assaulting Abuyere and other employees of his company, disrupting operations, damaging property, and threatening to use social media to damage the complainant’s business. The police later arrested the individuals involved.
Earlier today, the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit invited Dikeh to its headquarters in connection with an investigation into criminal defamation, cyberbullying, and forgery, among other charges.
In response to the allegations, Dikeh stated on her Instagram page that she was neither arrested nor jailed by the police or any other law enforcement agency. She emphasized her status as a law-abiding citizen and denied any involvement in criminal activities.
Dikeh also stated that she had never received any search warrant, arrest warrant, or similar legal documents from the Nigerian police.
She expressed her willingness to cooperate with law enforcement when necessary but warned that she would take legal action against anyone attempting to defame her character or spread false stories about her.
