When visited the area on Saturday, the community was in turmoil, with residents gathering in groups to discuss the incident.
Omolayo Olalere, the deceased’s wife, recounted, “We were outside around 9:48 PM when they suddenly invaded our house. My husband had no known disputes. When they came in, we rushed inside.
One of my senior wives was beaten severely outside. Inside, they ordered my husband to lay on the table and then attacked him with daggers, axes, knives, broken bottles, and cutlasses, using charms to ensure he didn’t survive.”She added,
“They were 12 in total, with three masked. We rushed him to Cureland Hospital at Moniya, but he was later referred to another facility where he passed away on Friday.
We have reported the case to the Moniya Divisional Police Station.”
The deceased’s father, Jelili Olalere, expressed his shock, saying, “My son was quiet. I don’t understand why they attacked us, destroying our home and killing him.
They used charms and weapons, and we have reported the incident to the police.”
Abass Olalere’s body has been taken to the morgue at Adeoyo Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan. Efforts to contact the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful as his phone was unreachable.
