Early Sunday morning, a group of terrorists attacked the Guto area in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja, resulting in one fatality and the abduction of four individuals.
According to sources, the assault began around 12:30 AM at the fringes of Guto and Piyawe communities, eventually extending into the Tudun-Fulani and Sabon Gari areas within the council.
The armed assailants, numbering over 30, split into two groups and attacked from multiple directions, entering Piyawe through the swamps.
During the attack, the bandits killed a woman identified as Madam Alice, in her mid-40s, who was visiting her sick mother.
Additionally, two victims were kidnapped from their homes in Guto, while another person was abducted from Tudun-Fulani, less than a kilometer from the council secretariat.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the ordeal: “We couldn’t sleep from 12:30 AM until almost 3:00 AM.
Initially, we thought it was the vigilance teams shooting, but as it continued, we realized these people were back again. We’ve had peace for some time, but unfortunately, they have resumed with full force.
They came prepared, with sophisticated weapons, and attacked in two groups—one in Guto and the other in Piyawe.”
Another resident from Tudun-Fulani alleged that the police failed to respond despite multiple frantic calls to the divisional headquarters in Bwari.
“We felt so helpless because the kidnappers operated for over an hour without any challenge from the police or army. We called the police multiple times, but they only arrived after the kidnappers had left.”
The attack has left the community in shock and raised concerns about the effectiveness of security measures in the area.
