The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of two individuals following a tragic misunderstanding.
The incident was detailed in a press release issued by the State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil.
In the release, Wakil stated that the police received a distress call from Gwallameji, reporting that a group of hunters, led by Commander Saidu Musa, a 49-year-old male, were in the area to apprehend an unidentified person.
This followed a complaint by Ibrahim Lado, a resident of Hajiya Amina Lodge, Gwallameji. The hunters, armed with machetes and guns, were mistaken for armed robbers by local residents, who responded forcefully.
The confrontation resulted in one of the hunters, Nasiru Adam, a 27-year-old resident of Tani-Yola, sustaining severe injuries.
Despite being rushed to ATBUTH for medical attention, Adam was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Additionally, three motorcycles belonging to the hunters were burnt during the altercation, according to Wakil.
