In a dramatic political realignment, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Wednesday in Asaba by Senator James Manager following a marathon six-hour meeting at the Government House.

“All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the party chairman, and all local government chairmen, have agreed to move to the APC,” Manager stated. “We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat.”

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, confirmed the development, emphasizing that the decision was strategic and necessary for the state’s progress.

“There is a need for us to adjust our drinking patterns. And in doing so, we needed to make a decision that would further enhance development, uphold justice, strengthen security, and advance the welfare of our people,” Aniagwu said.

He likened the PDP’s current state to “palm wine whose taste has changed,” saying that the time had come to switch to a new “drinking party.”

According to Aniagwu, the decision to defect was reached unanimously by PDP leaders and key stakeholders across Delta.

“A formal declaration will be made on Monday.”
