Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, temporary bail for two weeks on compassionate grounds to bury his mother.
Kyari was granted bail in the amount of 50 million Naira, along with a surety in the same sum. Justice Nwite specified that the surety, who will be Kyari’s counsel in this case, must deposit a copy of his call-to-bar certificate with the deputy registrar of the court.
Additionally, Kyari is required to surrender his travel passport to the court and report to any nearest formation of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during the bail period.
This temporary bail was granted pending the ruling on Kyari’s bail application, which is scheduled for May 31, 2024.
Although Kyari’s mother, Yachilla Kyari, passed away on May 5, 2024, it is unclear if this influenced the decision to grant him bail.
In 2021, Kyari was indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in connection with alleged international internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi. He was subsequently arrested by the NDLEA in February 2020 for alleged drug-related offenses and has since been held at Kuje prison in Abuja.
