The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended a syndicate of individuals posing as State House staff in Abuja, accused of criminal conspiracy, false representation, and involvement in an employment scam totaling N22 million.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the arrests were made following investigations prompted by petitions from victims who were promised jobs across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The suspects allegedly offered positions such as “Director-General” at entities including the Ministry of Communication, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), among others.
Identified suspects include Augustine Umogboi, who claimed past affiliation with the State House, Eleojo Idakwo posing as a Ministry of Information staff in the Registry Unit, Kingsley Onuh, purportedly a recent National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) graduate, Omata Sunday, and Eljayon Nigeria Limited, a company implicated in the financial transactions.
“They operated multiple bank accounts and received a total sum of N22,350,000 from their victims,” Oyewale stated, specifying the dates of arrest for Umogboi, Idakwo, and Onuh.
Victims, who lodged complaints with the EFCC, detailed their ordeals, prompting the agency’s actions. Oyewale confirmed that the suspects have provided valuable information during interrogation and will face prosecution upon completion of investigations.
