The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called on public officeholders to maintain probity, transparency, and accountability in managing public funds.
EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, made this appeal during a visit by a delegation from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), led by its Managing Director/CEO, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, in Abuja.
Olukoyede warned that a day of reckoning would come for those who neglect these principles, emphasizing that only leaders with high moral standards should occupy positions of trust.
He stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in governance, noting that while Nigerians are inherently good people, they are often hindered by a system that allows fraud to flourish.
Olukoyede reassured that the EFCC would continue its work with unwavering determination and courage, committed to using the fight against corruption to strengthen the economy and ensure good governance.
He also expressed the EFCC’s readiness to support and enhance its working relationship with the NDDC to help the commission fulfill its mandate.
Chief Ogbuku thanked the EFCC for its support in recovering funds for the NDDC, which has benefited both the region and the commission. He announced plans to invite the EFCC to commission projects funded by the recovered money, highlighting the positive impact of the EFCC’s efforts.
Ogbuku also discussed the NDDC’s “Rewind to Rebirth” policy, which aims to improve the commission’s reputation by focusing on transparency and learning from past mistakes. He sought enhanced collaboration with the EFCC, particularly in providing technical support and training for the NDDC’s finance staff in financial management.
In response, Olukoyede reiterated the EFCC’s commitment to fighting corruption and building a strong economy through good governance.
