The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
He urged Muslims to use the occasion to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, describing him as a model of peace, love, and tolerance.
“On this occasion, I call on all Muslims to imbibe the Prophet’s virtues of love, patience, humility, and selflessness. These values are essential in building a united and prosperous Nigeria,” the minister said.
Tunji-Ojo further appealed to Nigerians to continue praying for peace and stability in the country, adding that the government remained committed to tackling the challenges facing the nation.
“As a people, we must stand together and support the government in its efforts to ensure security, economic growth, and development. Unity and cooperation are the bedrock of progress,” he added.
Eid-ul-Mawlid is celebrated annually by Muslims across the world to honor the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
