A mild drama has trailed the birthday celebration of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as he openly criticised former President Olusegun Obasanjo for what he described as “irresponsible comments” made during the event.

Fayose, in a strongly worded message addressed to the former President, accused him of making disparaging remarks that were unbefitting of his age and status.

In his message, Fayose expressed displeasure at Obasanjo’s conduct at the event, saying he withheld his response at the venue to avoid creating a scene.

He further alleged that the former President displayed signs of “dementia” and asked him to return a sum of money reportedly given to him.

Part of Fayose’s message read:
“Dear Baba Obasanjo, I trust this meets you well. Your coming to my birthday party, I appreciate, except for your very irresponsible comments at your age. You went so low… I kept quiet so that the world will know the difference between a sane and a mad man that you are… Lastly, I shall appreciate if you return my money since you publicly admitted you received it.”

Responding, former President Obasanjo dismissed Fayose’s remarks, stating that his reactions only revealed “who and what” the former governor represents.

He confirmed that the money in question had been returned exactly as it was brought, noting that he never opened the bag.

Obasanjo’s reply read:
“Ayo, thanks for your ‘Thank You’ message, which undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable. Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo who brought it, and in the same bag as he brought it, unopened by me.”

The exchange between the two political heavyweights has since sparked conversations across political circles and social media, with many observers weighing in on the escalating rift.
