In a landmark decision, the Federal High Court in Abuja has upheld the nomination of Dr. Asue Ighodalo as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment on suit CS/469/24, dismissing the case brought by Philip Shaibu challenging Ighodalo’s candidacy.

The court ruled that Ighodalo was duly nominated during the PDP primary held on February 22, 2024, at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, where he garnered 577 votes, defeating Shaibu and 10 other aspirants.

The court concluded that the plaintiffs failed to substantiate their claims, including an allegation of voter’s card forgery, and deemed the action statute-barred, leading to its dismissal.
