Five months and two days after the announcement of their birth, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, officially welcomed his twins into the royal household on Sunday at his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The twins, a boy and a girl, were born to one of his wives, Olori Tobiloba Ogunwusi. Oba Ogunwusi had first announced the arrival of the twins on Saturday, March 16, 2024, through a Facebook post.
He wrote, “To God be the glory; great things He has done. Hearty congratulations to the entire House of Oduduwa and Olori Tobiloba, who today birthed a prince and princess to the royal throne of Oduduwa.
Mother and children are doing well to the glory of God Almighty.” The announcement was accompanied by a photo featuring the monarch and the mother of the twins.
Since their birth, the twins and their mother had been residing outside the palace.
However, a live video streamed on the Facebook page of Ooni’s private secretary, Adetoyese Adewale, showed Olori Tobiloba and the babies being ceremoniously brought into the palace amidst drumming and dancing.
In the video, Obalufe of Ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura, and Lowa of Ife, Oba Adekola Adeyeye, were seen receiving the twins from Olori Tobiloba and another individual whose identity was not immediately clear.
The chiefs then presented the babies to the monarch, who was seated in the palace. The ceremony was marked by songs praising both the monarch and the twins, with guests watching the event from canopies.
Recall that Olori Ashley, another wife of the Ooni, had responded to the birth announcement with congratulations, expressing joy over the new additions to the royal family.
She wrote, “Hearty congratulations to us on the throne of our forefathers, to my amazing husband, and my beautiful sister/wife for this amazing addition to our big family.
May Olodumare bless our prince and princess. May Olodumare keep my sister/wife safe.” Similarly, Queen Olori Aishat congratulated the royal family on the occasion.
