Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised governors to prioritize food security and implement policies that enhance the well-being of their citizens.
Obasanjo gave this advice in Sokoto during the inauguration of 136 housing units, acquired by the Sokoto State Government for N1.8 billion, intended for low-income earners.
He emphasized that ensuring food security should be a top priority, followed by personal health and security, stating that “good feeling enhances health and other productive engagements.”
He praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his leadership and the progress made in various sectors, including transportation, road construction, agriculture, and housing.
Obasanjo described Aliyu as a “leader running a good race,” and commended his energetic and resilient qualities in leadership.
“Your strong, energetic, and resilient qualities in leadership have enabled you to achieve so much within just one year. Implementing these projects will surely brighten your chances of seeking a future mandate without stress,” Obasanjo remarked.
Governor Aliyu explained that the housing projects are part of his campaign promises to deliver human-oriented initiatives that improve the welfare and living standards of the people in the state.
He highlighted ongoing efforts to complete and initiate similar projects across the state, including road constructions, youth and women empowerment, water supply, and agricultural support for farmers, as well as equipping hospitals.
“We are determined to continue developing the state, providing state-of-the-art facilities at all sites, including Islamiyya schools, markets, and playgrounds, among others,” Aliyu said.
He further noted that the houses were acquired from the Federal Government and would be allocated to residents on an owner-occupier basis to address the growing need for shelter in the state.
