Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, allocated farmlands to the 26 members of the State House of Assembly on Thursday as part of efforts to ensure food security and support the federal government’s agricultural resurgence initiative.
During a ceremony at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Abiodun presented letters of allocation to commemorate the first anniversary of the 10th legislature.
He emphasized that this gesture was aimed at making lawmakers contribute towards making Ogun State the food basket of the country.
“I recall that I had promised to allocate agricultural land to all Ogun State legislators as part of our food security and agricultural resurgence initiative, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Abiodun stated.
“Today, in fulfilment of that promise and in commemoration of your one year in office, I am glad to present letters of allocation to the Speaker and the 25 members of the House of Assembly.
I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to ensure you grow what you eat and eat what you grow. This will be your way of contributing to our goal of making Ogun State the breadbasket of the nation.”
Governor Abiodun lauded the Assembly members for their commitment to democracy, good governance, and citizen welfare. He noted that their dedication to legislative excellence has driven the progress and development of the state.
“In the last year, the lawmakers have passed numerous bills and resolutions aimed at improving the lives of the people.
Their tireless efforts, unwavering integrity, and collaborative spirit with the executive have made the state one of the best in the country,” Abiodun remarked.
“Each of us, whether in the Executive or Legislative branch, has been given a rare opportunity to lead and serve. We must understand and decide which side of the divide we want to be on and how we wish to be remembered.”
Governor Abiodun assured the lawmakers of his administration’s commitment to working closely with them to advance key initiatives that will further drive the state’s development.
He pledged to prioritize investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and technology to ensure Ogun State remains competitive and prosperous.
“Together, we have a great task ahead. The expectations of our people are vast. We must strive to create an inclusive society where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive,” he added.
Earlier, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, described the past year as turbulent and filled with tension but maintained that their desire to provide purposeful representation saw them through the challenging period.
He praised the governor for the complete renovation and restoration of the assembly complex, which now includes 24 new toilets and restored water supply in the offices of the legislators.
Rt. Hon. Elemide assured the governor of the Assembly’s cooperation in enacting laws that would fast-track the socio-economic development of the state.
He emphasized that members would be guided by their commitment to representing the interests of their constituents.
