Gunmen have reportedly killed Pastor Dauda Dalyop of the Assemblies of God Church, along with his wife and three others, in a violent attack in the Kwall community, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. The tragic incident occurred on Monday.
Sam Jugo, the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, confirmed the attack in a statement circulated to his kinsmen on Wednesday.
According to Jugo’s statement, the attack took place in the early hours of June 2, 2024.
“Dear kinsmen, we woke up this morning to another sad event. In the middle of the night, criminal invaders attacked and killed five of our residents in cold blood at Ari Songo (Songo’s House), Kimakpa, Kwall District,” Jugo stated.
The victims were identified as: Pastor Dauda Dalyop, 63 years old (Assemblies of God Church, Kwall), Mrs. Chummy Dauda, 57 years old, Mr. Chwe Ajuhs, 26 years old, Mr. Joshua Kusa, 45 years old, Mrs. Rikwe Doro, 43 years old
Additionally, two individuals were severely injured and are currently receiving treatment. Troops of Operation Safe Haven were mobilized to prevent further violence.
The attack has left the Kwall district in a state of uneasy calm. Jugo noted that this incident follows another recent attack where Rigwe youths were ambushed, resulting in the death of Mr. Irmiya Musa Timbi and severe injury to another.
“We appeal for calm to enable the security agencies to carry out their investigations. We should enhance our vigilance, avoid night movements to distant destinations, suppress the urge for reprisals, and trust the security agencies to do their job,” Jugo added.
He emphasized the need for the security agencies to bring the culprits to justice to restore confidence in the community.
In a follow-up statement after the victims’ burial, Jugo mentioned that police and local government officials visited the site to assess the situation and offer condolences.
The President of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA) has appealed for upgrades to the local police outstation and the establishment of a new one in Kwall.
The Commissioner of Police for Plateau State, O. E. Adesina, and senior officers, including the DPO Bassa LG, also visited the site and promised to take action. Operation Safe Haven has deployed officers to apprehend the culprits, and investigations are ongoing.
This incident adds to a series of violent attacks in Plateau State. In April 2024, gunmen killed 10 people in separate attacks in Mandung-Mushu and Kopnanle villages in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs, leaving several injured and properties destroyed.
The Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council, Farmasum Fuddang, confirmed those earlier killings in a statement.
