The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that security agencies have received intelligence about a Senator allegedly sponsoring the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests against the government.

Speaking at a press briefing after a security meeting with heads of security agencies in Abuja on Thursday, Wike disclosed that the scheduled protests, which began today in Abuja and other parts of the country, continued despite government officials urging citizens to avoid them.

Wike claimed that the Senator, who is expected to be questioned by relevant agencies in the future, was seen providing food to the protesters with the help of security agents.

“We also have intelligence that a senator invited some security agencies to assist in delivering food to the protesters. This is a clear case of sponsorship,” he stated. “A senator providing food for protesters will be investigated at the appropriate time.”

The Minister reiterated his call for protesters to adhere to the court order restricting them to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, citing the violence and deaths that occurred on the first day of the protest.

He also warned that intelligence suggested miscreants planned to hijack the protest and destroy property the following day.

“We believe in democratic principles and the rule of law. The protest is a right that allows the government to address the issues raised, but it must be conducted within legal boundaries.

The court has designated the MKO Abiola Stadium for the protest,” Wike emphasized. “Security agencies are prepared to prevent any attempts to disrupt the protest and ensure safety.”
