The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has referred an abuse allegation involving popular online influencer Suraj Oyewale, known as SirJarus, for investigation.
This follows a series of tweets from SirJarus addressing the incident involving him and his wife, Mrs. Oyewale Ayoola.
In now-deleted tweets, Oyewale accused his wife of engaging in fetish practices and provocative behavior, which he claimed led to a physical altercation.
These statements have sparked outrage on social media, particularly on X.com, where users have expressed a wide range of opinions on the matter. Oyewale also hinted that his 14-year marriage might be nearing its end, a situation related to his recent decision to take a second wife.
The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) responded in a post on its X account on Friday, saying, “Our attention has been drawn to a tweet made by @SirJarus.
As the statutory agency in Lagos State dedicated to preventing and responding to domestic and sexual violence, we take this very seriously.
Domestic violence in any form is unacceptable, and the Lagos State Government maintains a zero-tolerance stance against it.”
Additionally, a suit dated June 27, 2024, has surfaced online, revealing that Oyewale’s lawyer, Muhammad Adam of Muhammad Adam and Associates, has formally communicated Oyewale’s intent to dissolve his marriage.
The suit specifies that abandoning Islam and consulting soothsayers and herbalists were established as deal-breakers prior to their marriage in 2011. Oyewale is also seeking full custody of their three children.
The Lagos DSVA, through its Head of Public Affairs Unit Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, has referred the case to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation.
The statement read, “We have, as an agency, referred this to the Commissioner of Police (Gender Desk Department) to ensure that investigation commences.
We appreciate everyone who tagged us and brought this to our attention.”

Attempts to reach the Lagos Police Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful as phone calls went unanswered and text messages were not responded to as of press time.
