Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), affirmed that the Port Harcourt refinery will commence delivering refined petroleum products in August, with Kaduna and Warri to follow suit by December.
Kyari emphasized that their projections were sincere, dismissing any accusations of misinformation.
Speaking at an emergency session on the economy before the National Assembly joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Kyari assured that Nigeria would become a net exporter of petroleum products by year-end.
He clarified that the mechanical work at the Port Harcourt refinery had been completed last December, paving the way for production.
Kyari elaborated on the technical complexities involved in refinery operations, stating, “We are already introducing hydrocarbon under a hot situation… I’m very sure that latest by early August, the Port Harcourt refinery will start producing products.”
He also addressed the timelines for Kaduna and Warri refineries, underscoring their commitment to achieving operational status despite inherent challenges.
The committee, represented by Senator Sani Musa, acknowledged the economic challenges but expressed optimism about Nigeria’s recovery trajectory.
Musa highlighted the importance of collective effort to support the country’s economic turnaround amidst prevailing difficulties.
In agreement, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other stakeholders affirmed Nigeria’s resilience in navigating economic challenges, echoing the optimism shared during the session.
