The Ogun State Government announced on Friday its aim to register an additional 100,000 farmers under the Ogun State Farmer Information Management System (OGFIMS), aimed at enhancing their skills and knowledge in best agricultural practices.
Dr. Bolu Owotomo, the Commissioner for Agriculture, disclosed this during a workshop on Farmers and Value Chain Actors registration held at the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project training hall in Abeokuta.
According to Owotomo, this new registration drive will increase the total number of registered farmers to 160,000.
He emphasized the workshop’s goal of training 86 enumerators and supervisors to gather accurate information on farmers, enriching the state’s agricultural database.
Owotomo highlighted the initiative’s significance in providing comprehensive statistics on farmers and value chain actors, which would contribute to improving food security and fostering economic growth in the state.
Mrs. Mosunmola Owo-Odunsi, State Coordinator of OGSTEP, explained that the workshop aimed to equip enumerators with the skills to register farmers and value chain actors effectively in OGFIMS.
Mr. Lava Kumar, the project consultant for OGFIMS, emphasized that the digital platform would connect more farmers with stakeholders in the agricultural sector, serving as a vital repository of information and knowledge for farmers across Ogun State.
