The Ondo State Government announced on Tuesday that it will implement the N70,000 national minimum wage for state civil servants.
The state Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip, shared this commitment during a press briefing in his office in Akure, the state capital.
This minimum wage was approved by President Bola Tinubu following extensive negotiations with organized labor unions across the country.
Philip emphasized that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had consistently pledged that his administration would adhere to the Federal Government’s minimum wage directive.
He also noted that the policy will extend to retirees and workers in all state-owned tertiary institutions, aiming to ease the current economic pressures.
He stated, “Before the bill was assented to by the President, the governor had committed to paying whatever minimum wage was agreed upon and approved by Mr. President.
We are currently finalizing the necessary preparations, and once the details of the salary table are available, we will implement it without delay.”
Addressing the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, Philip highlighted that Ondo State remains calm. He noted, “Here, no one is protesting—not the youths, market women, students, or public servants. Everyone is focused on their duties, and there is tranquility throughout the state.
This is because we have a governor who is in tune with the people’s needs and aspirations. The government in Ondo State truly reflects the will of the people, so organizing a protest against ourselves is inconceivable.”
