The Osun State Government has confirmed an outbreak of monkeypox (Mpox) in the Ilesa-West local government area.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola, in a statement released through the Ministry of Information on Monday.
Akintola reassured residents of Ilesa and the entire state that there is no need for panic, as the state government is effectively managing the situation.
He urged residents to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of transmission and to report any suspicious symptoms to the appropriate health authorities.
The Commissioner also revealed that the State Government has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to curb the spread of the disease.
“We successfully managed COVID-19 and prevented a cholera outbreak. Now, with two confirmed Mpox cases, the EOC has been activated, and stakeholders will meet every Monday to strategize on preventing the spread of the virus,” Akintola stated.
