Oyo State First Lady, Engr. Tamunominini Makinde, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to prioritizing education as the foundation for sustainable development and a better future.
Mrs. Makinde gave this assurance during the launch of the distribution of 50,000 free exercise books to public secondary schools across Oyo State.
This initiative is a collaboration between the office of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the office of the Oyo State First Lady.
Represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, Mrs. Makinde explained that the initiative aims to assist parents in providing writing materials for their children.
She encouraged students to take their studies seriously and use the materials wisely.
“This program is part of the renewed hope initiative by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, with our First Lady, Engr. Olufunke Tamunominini Makinde, serving as the coordinator for Oyo State and the Southwest.
This initiative is designed to improve the quality of life, especially for women and children,” she said.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, praised the Governor’s achievements in the education sector. Speaking through the Director of Secondary Schools, Mr. Akanji Olayinka, he noted that the gesture would enhance the academic performance of Oyo State students.
Principals from Iseyin District Grammar School and Fiditi Grammar School, Mrs. Oyepeju Kazeem and Mrs. Abokede Taiwo, respectively, thanked the federal and state governments for their support, emphasizing the benefits for parents in providing writing materials for their children.
Miss Olaosebikan Raheemat, the Senior Girl from Iseyin District, expressed gratitude on behalf of the students, saying the program would boost their morale and help them prepare for the next academic session.
The event, held at Iseyin District Grammar School and Fiditi Grammar School, featured the symbolic presentation of exercise books by the representative of the Oyo First Lady to student representatives from schools across the state.
