The newly appointed 46th Alaafin of Oyo will ascend the throne in a grand ceremony expected to draw dignitaries, government officials, and Yoruba descendants from across the world.

The celebrations will kick off with a Cultural Carnival Parade, showcasing vibrant Yoruba music, dance, and art. This will be followed by various activities, including tree-planting campaigns, public lectures, and a coronation quiz to engage young people in learning about Oyo’s history.

Oba Owoade’s rise to the throne follows the passing of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III in 2022, leaving Oyo Kingdom without a ruler for nearly three years.
His selection by the Oyomesi and other kingmakers was confirmed when he received his staff of office from Governor Seyi Makinde on January 13, 2025.
