The Oyo State Government recently arrested seven individuals involved in illegal diesel trading along Lagos – Ibadan Expressway.
The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Architect Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, during an enforcement tour of the areas, ordered the arrest of the violators.
While addressing journalists after the enforcement exercise, he disclosed that his team had given strict warnings about three consecutive times, issuing warnings and vacation notices.
He maintains that this action aligns with the government’s commitment to curb illegal activities that harm the state’s economy and environment.
Such operations are crucial in maintaining law and order and ensuring that businesses operate within the legal framework.
He expressed his displeasure over the failure of the illegal traders to halt their activities despite the initial demolition of unauthorized shanties and tents constructed around the axis.
Mogbonjubola re-echoed that the Oyo State Government had prohibited illegal trading of Diesel and illegal habitation along the Expressway and the borderline of the State as a way to check illegal habitation and criminality.
The arrested environmental offenders will be handed over to the Oyo State Rule of Law Agency for prosecution to serve as deterrence to others.
