The Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, has enrolled 2676 students since inception two years ago.
This statement was made by the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Olanrewaju Olaniyan, during the first annual alumni lecture held at the school premises.
Prof. Olaniyan emphasized the rich history of the institution, which has been in existence for 128 years. He said that the university, which was established in 1896 to train grade 2 teachers, has since undergone a significant transformation to become a university
He said the institution will mark her 2nd anniversary on the 18th of December this year.
Prof. Olaniyan who attributed the renaming and upgrading of the institution to the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, appreciated the Governor’s unwavering support for the education sector, as evident in the 2024 budgetary allocation to the sector.
Speaking on the theme of the lecture, “Bridging the town and Gown- Alumni Association and the University System in an unpredictable world” the guest speaker, Prof. Sola Owonibi emphasized the role of alumni in supporting the sustainability and relevance of universities in an unpredictable world.
He stressed that as universities face increasing challenges and changes, alumni associations provide a valuable resource for promoting collaboration, innovation, and engaging the wider community thereby ensuring that it remains a vibrant and responsive part of society.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the event, Retired Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, emphasized the necessity of alumni involvement in taking universities to greater heights, especially in the face of challenges that can’t be solely shouldered by the government.
He stressed the significance of the alumni lecture in fostering connections between the community and the institution.
Expressing appreciation for the institution’s recognition of the alumni as stakeholders to the growth of the university, the National president of the Alumni association, Mr. Kola Amole, called on the alumni to participate actively in supporting university projects, showcasing their commitments and adding value to the institution.
Speaking also at the event, the Chairman of SEAP Holdings, and alumnus of the Institution, Dr. Oladokun Olatunde expressed that the event would engage alumni in making positive impact on the academic environment.
He emphasized the vital role alumni play in meeting the expectations of the university, towards supporting and enhancing the institution’s capabilities and ensuring continuous growth and development.
