The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, over allegations of anti-party activities.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, announced the development on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television programme.
Abdullahi revealed that Wike had been formally summoned to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee, which is chaired by elder statesman Chief Tom Ikimi. The committee was established by the PDP’s National Working Committee.
“Three weeks ago, we set up two committees: one for reconciliation and one for discipline. Nyesom Wike is among those who have been called to face the disciplinary committee, headed by Chief Tom Ikimi,” Abdullahi said.
“The disciplinary committee is tasked with investigating issues of anti-party activities. We’ve received numerous petitions accusing Wike and other party members of actions that have undermined the party, particularly during the primary season.”
Abdullahi also criticized Wike’s recent remarks about “putting fire” in the states of PDP governors, calling the statement “wrong and unacceptable.
” He added, “Wike should manage his words carefully; that was a very disappointing remark. We do not support him on that.”
This development comes just two days after Wike expressed his satisfaction with serving in the Bola Tinubu administration, despite facing criticism and threatening PDP governors who support Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
During the PDP Congress in Port Harcourt, Wike warned that he would cause political turmoil in the states of any PDP governor who tried to interfere in the party’s affairs in the South-South.
Wike also made a controversial statement, saying that anyone displeased with his role in Tinubu’s government “should go and hug the transformer.”
