
Oyo State Police Command has made significant strides in combating violent crime, announcing the recovery of N16 million in cash and the arrest of 41 suspected criminals involved in various illicit activities such as murder, armed robbery, gun running, rape, and car snatching across the state.
During a briefing at the Eleyele headquarters in Ibadan, Commissioner of Police Mr. Sonubi Ayodele disclosed that the operation also led to the seizure of exotic cars, firearms, ammunition, motorcycles, human parts converted into ritual items, and mobile phones, among other items.
Highlighting specific cases, CP Sonubi detailed incidents including a suspected murder case where 35-year-old Bolarinwa Segilogbon confessed to killing Amdalat Afeez, an online ‘ponmo’ vendor. Segilogbon admitted to luring her to a construction site under false pretenses and fatally attacking her during an argument over money.
In another tragic incident reported by Haruna Anifat, her husband was killed by suspects Olausnkanmi Oluwaseyi and Lekan Taiwo over an alleged debt of N5,500 owed for labor on a farm.
Further investigations revealed a gruesome murder where suspects beheaded a 60-year-old woman, Nike Odediran, under the instruction of a fugitive named Jimoh Oke, promising a reward of N50,000 for the act.
Commending the efforts of law enforcement and security agencies, CP Sonubi assured the public of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in Oyo State. He urged citizens to continue providing timely information to aid in apprehending criminal elements.
The arrests and recoveries underscored the commitment of the Oyo State Police Command to tackle crime and ensure safety across communities in the state.
