The Federal Government has responded to calls for a regime change by urging critics to wait until the 2027 presidential election.
Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, made this statement on Tuesday following the inaugural Council of State meeting under President Bola Tinubu.
Alake addressed the media and criticized recent hunger protests, describing them as attempts to force a change of regime, which were met with resistance.
Alake stated, “The Council of State appreciated Nigerians for resisting an unconstitutional attempt to change the government.
If anyone is dissatisfied with the current administration, they should wait for the next election to cast their vote. Change of government must occur through the ballot, not through force or insurrection.”
He also mentioned that the National Security Adviser briefed the council on the security situation, reassuring that the government is committed to protecting democracy and maintaining national security.
“The NSA addressed the security concerns surrounding the recent protests and reassured that our democracy will not be undermined,” Alake added.
In addition to security updates, Alake noted that the Council of State reviewed progress reports from seven ministers, focusing on economic diversification and the Renewed Hope Agendas.
Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, Chairman of the Governor’s Forum and Governor of Kwara State, revealed that the council passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu.
He also mentioned that the governors held an executive session with the President, where they reaffirmed their support and confidence in his leadership.
“The Council of State and the Nigerian Governors’ Forum both expressed satisfaction with the President’s performance and passed a vote of confidence in him.
We believe we are on the right track and pray for continued guidance and success for the President,” AbdulRazaq concluded.
