President Bola Tinubu, former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, on Sunday, proposed solutions to the economic challenges facing Nigeria.
During the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, held amidst high food inflation, President Tinubu called on Nigerians to extend more care and charity to their neighbors.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu emphasized the responsibilities of citizenship, urging Nigerians to show love and share with one another.
“Citizenship comes with responsibilities. As citizens, we must love our country, our neighbors, and always be thankful to Almighty God,” the statement read.
Former President Buhari, in his message, encouraged Nigerians to return to farming and buy locally made products.
His statement, released by media adviser Garba Shehu, expressed satisfaction with the increasing number of Nigerians engaging in agriculture. Buhari stressed the importance of self-reliance, food production, and food security.
He also urged the youth to learn about the nation’s founding fathers and derive inspiration from them. Additionally, Buhari voiced concerns about uncontrolled population growth, advocating for more investment in education and health.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, called on leaders to intensify their efforts in addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
Speaking at his palace in Sokoto, Abubakar emphasized the need for improved security to allow farmers access to their lands, thereby combating hunger. He also urged the affluent to assist the less privileged in society.
Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of CAN, in his Eid message, called for unity, love, and forgiveness among Nigerians despite current challenges.
He urged citizens to embody the values of sacrifice, obedience, and faith, and to work towards unity and peace.
“As Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, symbolizing sacrifice, obedience, and faith, I extend warm felicitations to our Muslim brothers and sisters,” Okoh stated.
He also called for prayers for divine intervention in Nigeria’s security, economic, and political struggles, and stressed the need for collective efforts to build a prosperous and united Nigeria.
Okoh reiterated the importance of peace, love, and forgiveness, urging Nigerians to support the displaced, bereaved, and traumatized.
“Our nation’s diversity is its strength, and together, we can overcome any obstacle. Let us work together to build a Nigeria where all citizens can thrive, regardless of religion, tribe, or creed,” he added.
