Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially inaugurated the Mushin Flyover, marking the completion of the last of the five overpasses constructed along the Red Line Rail corridor.
Accompanied by his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and members of the State’s cabinet, Sanwo-Olu unveiled the flyover on Saturday. The project, managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), aims to ease traffic congestion and delays for motorists and commuters traveling between Agege Motor Road and Onipanu, and to address issues at the Ogunmokun railway crossing.
The new flyover is expected to reduce both pedestrian and vehicular interference with the rail tracks, mitigating the risk of accidents between trains and vehicles.
Prior to the completion of the Mushin Flyover, the Sanwo-Olu administration had opened four other bridges in Yaba, Oyingbo, Ikeja, and Agege, enhancing connectivity along the 37-kilometre Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line from Agbado to Oyingbo.
At the inauguration, Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the Mushin Flyover represents another fulfilled promise of his administration, transforming public transportation in Lagos.
He stated, “The Mushin overpass is crucial for improving movement and connectivity within Mushin and Onipanu, and it opens new routes to Agege Motor Road, Post Office Road, and Ogunmokun axis.
This infrastructure not only enhances traffic flow but also brings significant economic benefits to the area.”
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the project minimized disruption on the Red Line corridor and enhanced the quality of life for residents.
He noted that the infrastructure has provided local engineering students with valuable internship opportunities and has been complemented by the reconstruction of a primary school that was displaced during construction.
The Governor commended the residents of Mushin and Onipanu for their support and urged them to take ownership of and protect the new infrastructure.
LAMATA Managing Director, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, confirmed that the State Government fully compensated the owners of affected buildings, and the project was executed by a local contractor.
