The Living Perfect Master and Founder of the One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has openly criticized Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), following Adeboye’s recent apology on the issue of tithing.
Pastor Adeboye’s name has sparked conversations on social media after he offered a public apology for a sermon he gave years ago, in which he stated that people who did not pay tithes would not make it to heaven.
During his church’s International Youth Convention (IYC) at the Redemption City of God in Mowe, Ogun State, Adeboye expressed his regret, saying: “I’m apologizing for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you won’t make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is, ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.’”
However, Satguru Maharaj Ji responded strongly, saying that Adeboye’s apology would be meaningless until he returned the tithes he had collected from his congregation. “Your apology doesn’t mean anything unless you promise to return the tithe money given by people who thought they were bribing their way to heaven,” Maharaj Ji declared.
Maharaj Ji went on to criticize the notion of pastors using fear to extort their followers, accusing Adeboye of running the church like a business. He condemned the RCCG leader’s focus on accumulating wealth and building church branches, while overlooking urgent societal needs, such as providing aid to displaced persons.
He emphasized that many of the teachings on tithing in Nigerian churches are exploitative, calling the entire practice a “scam.”
Maharaj Ji argued that churches in Nigeria have become establishments set up to extract money from the poor and hopeless, instead of uplifting their communities.
Maharaj Ji concluded by saying that tithing is no longer relevant, especially since his arrival as the Satguru Maharaj Ji of this age, with a mission to reveal divine knowledge and free people from negativity.
