Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has appealed to Nigerian youths to engage constructively with the government to find lasting solutions to the country’s problems rather than resorting to protests that could cause more harm.
Abiodun made this appeal during a meeting with a coalition of youth organizations at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
He recalled the destruction caused by the EndSARS protests in 2020, emphasizing that protests often exacerbate issues without providing solutions.
“Calls for mass protests are not the way to engage constructively with the government,” Abiodun said. “You have no other country than Nigeria.
Let’s discuss issues and find solutions instead of resorting to actions that could lead to more problems.”
He urged youths to bring their vibrancy, zeal, ingenuity, and technical know-how to solve the nation’s issues, noting that Nigeria, like many countries, is experiencing tough times.
The governor praised the maturity shown by Ogun State youths during the EndSARS protests, acknowledging their peaceful conduct.
Abiodun also highlighted his administration’s focus on infrastructure, social welfare, education, youth empowerment, job creation, and agriculture.
He defended his administration’s achievements in health, education, infrastructure, and security, and addressed recent social media attacks on his person and administration.
The governor revealed that he had signed an executive order to split the Ministry of Youths and Sports into the Ministries of Sports Development and Youth Development to better cater to the needs of youths and sports in the state.
He assured that the Ministry of Youth Development would soon have a young, brilliant, and vibrant Commissioner.
Motolani Oyediji, one of the youth representatives, called for more youth inclusion in government, while Kolawole Soremi, the State Chairman of the National Youth Council, requested the appointment of a Commissioner for Youth Development and regular dialogues between youths and the government to address potential misunderstandings.
