Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, announced on Tuesday that sponsors of the #EndBadGovernance protests in the diaspora have been placed on a watch list and will be arrested upon their return to Nigeria.
Nandap made this statement during a joint press conference in Abuja, convened by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, at the Defence Headquarters.
She stated, “We have identified some diaspora sponsors; they are on our watch list. Any attempt they make to enter the country will be flagged, and they will be apprehended and handed over to the appropriate authorities.”
To bolster security, the NIS has increased personnel at both land and air borders to ensure rigorous monitoring of entry points.
Additionally, surveillance efforts have been intensified to prevent foreign interference in the country.
Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, revealed that the police have uncovered some sponsors of the protests but declined to provide further details.
He noted that several of these individuals’ accounts have been blocked and mentioned that “many of them reside abroad.”
Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Yusuf Bichi, represented by the DSS spokesman, Mr. Peter Afunanya, confirmed that the service is closely monitoring the situation.
Afunanya added that the DSS is collaborating with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit to identify more individuals involved in funding the protests.
The briefing, led by the Chief of Defence Staff along with other security, intelligence, and paramilitary agency heads, followed a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the security chiefs concerning the recent violence associated with the nationwide protests.
