Suspected armed robbers shot and robbed a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer on Friday in Lokoja. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kogi, SP William Aya, confirmed the incident.
At around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a distress call at Lokongoma, Phase 1 in Lokoja, and found Abu, an FRSC officer, lying in a pool of blood after being shot in both legs and shoulder.
“He was returning from the bank when an ash-colored Toyota Camry blocked his path in front of Lokongoma Market, Phase 1, and the robbers stole an unspecified amount of money from him,” Aya said.
“A sum of N139,000 was recovered at the scene, and the victim was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.”
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bertrand Onuoha, has deployed officers to track down the suspects and bring them to justice.
An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, said the FRSC officer was heading home to Zango-Daji in Lokoja on a motorcycle when the incident occurred.
The gunmen fired several shots at the victim, who was struggling to keep hold of a bag, before stealing his money. (NAN).
