President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with $100,000 each, a fully furnished flat, and the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national award.
The generous reward follows the team’s historic fifth consecutive AfroBasket Women championship victory, after defeating Mali 78-64 in a thrilling final on Sunday.
In addition, members of the Coach Rena Wakama-led technical crew received $50,000 each in recognition of their contribution to the team’s outstanding performance.
President Tinubu announced the rewards during a special reception held at the State House on Monday evening, praising the team’s consistency, discipline, and patriotism.
This comes just a week after the President similarly honoured the Super Falcons for clinching Nigeria’s 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
