In a significant move towards fostering fairness and consistency in trade and lessen the burden of inflated prices and inadequate measurements on the people of Osun state, the Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, launched the new measurement standard bowl “Osunwon Imole.” 

Representing the Governor was the Deputy Governor, Prince Kolawole Adewusi, alongside key figures including Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, Yeyeluwa Modupeola Adeleke Sanni, and other notable attendees.

Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke via his deputy emphasized the significance of the initiative: “I am deeply delighted to stand before you today for the official launch of Osunwon Imole, our state’s new standard measuring bowl.

This initiative exemplifies our administration’s commitment to fairness, accuracy, and transparency in daily trade. It is more than just a measuring bowl it symbolizes our dedication to improving the quality of life for our people and ensuring that everyone gets fair value for their money.”

Addressing the challenges of the outdated measurement system, the Governor remarked, “Substandard measures have long caused difficulties for buyers and sellers. By introducing ‘Osunwon Imole,’ we aim to restore fairness and protect all stakeholders’ interests.”

The “Osunwon Imole” system introduces a standardized measuring bowl across Osun State, aiming to eliminate discrepancies and promote accuracy in market transactions. This initiative aligns with Osun State’s broader policy to foster a thriving business environment and sustainable economic growth.

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, highlighted the importance of the new standard in fostering fairness and consistency in trade.

He highlighted the need to regulate prices to ease the financial burden on consumers, ensuring that essential goods remain affordable.

“Today we gather here to launch State standard measuring bowl “osunwon Imole”, a symbol of progress and empowerment, a tool that will set a new standard in the way we measured goods for the enhancement of our local economy and ensure fairness, consistency, accuracy and reliability in trade practice by providing a universal accepted standard measuring bowl and we urge all trade leaders, Iyalojas and babalojas to ensure that the standard is well adopted across board for fairness and accuracy.

The traders, Iyalojas, Babalojas and EgbeOlowos ably led by the Iyaloja-General, Chief Mrs Mary Oyebode also expressed their support for the initiative, applauding the Governor’s administration for taking a bold step towards improving market practices.

They underscored the need for transparency and accountability in trade, expressing confidence that the new system would eliminate discrepancies and build stronger relationships between buyers and sellers.

They also appreciated the Governor for providing remuneration for Iyalojas across Osun state and pledged their unalloyed support and cooperation to the administration of Governor Adeleke.

Unveiling the new standard the recently honoured Yeye Gbobaniyi of Ibodi, Chief(Mrs) Modupeola Adeleke Sanni who conducted a verification of the new bowls with the bowls containing 10 cups each as the new standard to be utilised across the state hence.

Yeye Modupeola further commended the Governor’s administration for prioritizing the welfare of traders and consumers, urging collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the new system.

The launch of “Osunwon Imole” is a significant milestone in Osun State’s journey towards modernizing and formalizing its markets, the initiative is expected to enhance trust, efficiency, and transparency in trade practices, contributing to the state’s local economic development.
