In an effort to combat cholera, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) partnered with the Lagos State Government to implement comprehensive measures in Badagry Local Government Area.
The initiative includes intensive community engagements and awareness campaigns aimed at preventing the spread of the disease.
UNICEF’s Social and Behaviour Change Specialist, Aderonke Akinola-Akinwole, acknowledged the proactive efforts of Lagos State in engaging communities to take preventive actions against cholera during a two-day visit by the Lagos State Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) team to Badagry.
She highlighted the importance of community involvement in halting the spread of the disease.
The collaborative efforts between UNICEF, the Lagos State Government and local leaders aim to implement a comprehensive strategy for cholera prevention and management, safeguarding the health of residents in Badagry.
The RCCE team remains committed to ensuring that accurate information reaches all corners of the affected area, she concluded.
Chairman of Badagry LGA, Hon. Olusegun Onilude Adeniran, reiterated the government’s commitment to working closely with UNICEF.
He emphasized the importance of raising awareness and promoting preventive measures among residents.
Adeniran, expressed appreciation for the state’s support and outlined local initiatives to combat cholera, despite challenges such as inadequate waste disposal and water supply issues.
Mrs. Adesola Honfor, Director of Health Education and Promotion Services at the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, underscored the significance of training community mobilizers to disseminate vital information effectively.
She praised local mobilizers for their crucial role in community engagement.
