The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates.
The announcement was made via X on Monday, August 4. Candidates can now check their results online at http://waecdirect.org.
At a briefing in Lagos, WAEC Nigeria Head, Dr. Amos Dangut, described the exam as a success despite logistical challenges.
Out of 1,969,313 candidates, only 38.32% obtained at least five credits, including English and Mathematics — a significant drop from 72.12% in 2024.
WAEC linked the decline to stricter anti-malpractice measures, including serialised objective questions.
While 1.5 million results were fully released, about 451,000 are still being processed. Results of over 192,000 candidates were withheld for malpractice.
The 2025 exam also marked the beginning of WAEC’s shift to Computer-Based Testing (CBT), with full digitisation expected by 2026.
Candidates with special needs (12,178 in total) received full support, and female candidates slightly outperformed their male counterparts.
States owing WAEC will not receive results for their sponsored students until debts are cleared.
