The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has asserted that the union will not be intimidated by external pressures following his interrogation at the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
Ajaero was summoned by the police to address serious allegations, including terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony accompanied by prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), activist Deji Adeyanju, and other senior NLC officials.
Speaking after the session, Ajaero emphasized that his appearance before the police was driven by a commitment to transparency and to dispel the unfounded accusations against him and the NLC.
He reiterated that the union remains steadfast in its mission to advocate for workers’ welfare and will not be deterred by any challenges.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, Ajaero confidently dismissed them as a tactic to weaken the labour movement.
“Our resolve is stronger than ever,” he declared. “We will continue to champion the cause of workers across the nation, no matter the obstacles.”
Ajaero’s appearance at the IRT headquarters followed an initial invitation by the police on August 20, which he could not attend due to unforeseen circumstances.
He assured that the NLC remains united and focused on its mission, undeterred by any attempts to undermine its efforts.
