A shocking incident has rocked the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ogun State, Nigeria, as a senior official, Abass Olalekan, has been arrested and detained by the police following the death of a female corps member, Victoria Ariyo.
The 24-year-old corps member, who was serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, reportedly died from complications related to a terminated pregnancy.
According to sources, Olalekan, who serves as the Local Government Inspector (LGI) for Abeokuta South, was involved in a romantic relationship with Ariyo, which led to the pregnancy and its subsequent termination.
The police have confirmed that Olalekan is in custody at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding Ariyo’s death.
This incident comes barely a month after another female corps member, Adeleye Mary, died under mysterious circumstances in the same local government area.
Mary, who was attached to Ogun State Television (OGTV), was found lifeless in her residence, with the cause of death yet to be determined.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that investigations into Ariyo’s death are ongoing, with the case being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department. The NYSC has yet to comment on the incident.
