The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has condemned an alleged attack on the campaign team of Accord governorship candidate, Oriyomi Hamzat, in Ibadan, calling on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The alleged attack reportedly occurred around noon on Wednesday in the Molete area of Ibadan, where suspected hoodlums allegedly attacked vehicles conveying Accord supporters during a street campaign.

According to the APC, the attackers, suspected to be members of the Park Management System (PMS), allegedly wielded dangerous weapons and inflicted varying degrees of injuries on several campaigners, some of whom were reportedly critically injured.

The party, through its spokesperson, Olawale Sadare, accused Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration of allowing an atmosphere of political intimidation to thrive in the state.

The APC further alleged that PMS officials had been directed to ensure that commercial motorists displayed only campaign materials belonging to candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

However, the party did not provide independent evidence to substantiate its allegations against the governor or the PMS officials.

Sadare also recalled alleged attacks on APC members at three locations in Ibadan the previous week, while accusing suspected political opponents of vandalising campaign billboards, posters and other materials belonging to opposition candidates.

“The attack on Accord campaign train happened in broad daylight and some of the residents could identify the culprits, but we do not want to preempt the positive outcome of an objective and thorough investigation expected from the police and other security agencies,” the statement said.

The APC urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, while calling on security agencies to investigate the incident and prosecute anyone found culpable.

The party also warned against the use of violence to intimidate opposition members, insisting that political violence had no place in a democratic society.

Expressing concern over the rising political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections, the APC urged the Oyo State Government and security agencies to take urgent steps to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of political parties and their supporters.

The alleged incident comes amid growing political activities in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
