Kano State Police Commissioner, AIG Usaini Gumel, has explained why the police did not comply with Governor Yusuf’s directive to evict the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from the Nasarawa mini palace.
Governor Yusuf, through the State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, had on Thursday night instructed the CP to remove the deposed Emir from the palace.
In an interview on Friday, Gumel stated that following the eviction order would be premature since the state government had already filed a case at the State High Court regarding the eviction, scheduled for hearing on Monday, June 24, 2024.
“The police will not evict the deposed Emir because the same government has filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order, which will be heard on Monday, June 24, 2024,” Gumel explained.
“Carrying out the eviction order now would be like pre-empting the court’s decision because we do not know what the court will rule.”
In the meantime, security has been increased around the Nasarawa mini palace where Emir Aminu Ado Bayero is currently residing.
Additional security personnel have been deployed, and all four major routes leading to the palace have been blocked by security forces.
Despite Governor Yusuf’s directive, the police have not removed the deposed Emir.
He remains in the mini palace with his retinue of palace guards and other supporters, as the CP has opted to await the court’s decision before taking further action.
