The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Fubara said the decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends, and political associates, stressing that the peace, stability, and unity of Rivers State must come before personal ambition.

The governor stated that leadership requires sacrifice and noted that, at a critical time for the state, the collective interest of the people must take priority over individual aspirations.

Fubara expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty, prayers, and sacrifices throughout his political journey, acknowledging that many may feel disappointed by his decision. He, however, maintained that his actions were guided by the higher interest of the state.

The governor hinted at undisclosed pressures and difficult choices surrounding the political process, saying some issues were best handled with “wisdom and restraint” for the sake of peace.

He also thanked the All Progressives Congress for giving him the platform to participate in the process and expressed gratitude to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.

Fubara urged APC members and supporters to remain united and committed to building a stronger future for the state, insisting that his withdrawal should not be seen as an act of weakness or surrender.

According to him, the decision was made out of conviction and sacrifice to allow Rivers State to move forward in peace and unity, while pledging to continue serving the people of the state until the end of his tenure.
