Akindoyo Gideon, a 300-level Computer Engineering student at Al-Hikmah University, Igbaja in Kwara State, has reportedly been abducted in Irele council area of Ondo State.
Sources indicate that he was taken from his parent’s farm situated in Lumeko village, located between Igbobini and Ode Irele Communities within Ese Odo and Irele council area.
Gideon had traveled to visit his parents and had gone to the farm with his motorcycle to harvest cassava when the abduction occurred.
His motorcycle was later found at the farm, but his whereabouts remain unknown.
The National Association of Nigerian Students, through its leader Henry Okunomo, has called on state security agencies to locate the missing student.
Okunomo linked Gideon’s disappearance to ongoing communal conflicts between Irele and Igbobini Communities, urging leaders from both sides to ensure his safe return.
According to Okunomo, “We demand that the leaders of Irele and Igbobini Communities produce the student, alive or dead, within 72 hours. Failure to do so will lead us to relocate the NANS secretariat to the affected communities until his safe return is secured.”
The mother of the abducted student, Mrs. Janet Akindoyo, recounted that Gideon arrived in Irele on June 10 and went to the farm the next day but did not return. She appealed to authorities and the public for assistance in finding him.
Confirming the incident, the state Police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, assured that investigations are ongoing and search operations are being conducted in the forested areas.
