The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that no arrests have been made regarding the alleged killing of a police inspector by a naval officer in Lagos. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer, provided this update.
Hundeyin stated that a report was received at Okokomaiko Police Station around 4:30 pm on Saturday.
It was reported that policemen on routine patrol along Igbo-Elerin tried to impound a motorcycle for riding against traffic at Beno filling station.
Two men in mufti, claiming to be naval officers, resisted the impoundment and confronted the policemen. Subsequently, uniformed naval personnel arrived and supported their colleagues in the confrontation.
During the altercation, an inspector collapsed and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. His body has been taken to the Idi-Araba Mortuary in Yaba for an autopsy.
When asked about the inspector’s identity, Hundeyin explained that names are not disclosed until the family is informed.
He assured that the investigation is ongoing but confirmed that no arrests have been made so far.
