President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has flagged off the reconstruction and dualisation of the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road, a major highway linking Oyo and Ogun states, with the project valued at about ₦296 billion.

The project covers about 56.5 kilometres and is being handled by JRB Construction Limited. It is designed to improve connectivity, ease transportation and strengthen economic activities between Ibadan, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State and the Lagos economic corridor.

Represented by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, at the flag-off ceremony in Ibadan, Tinubu said the road was strategically important to farmers, traders, manufacturers, students and other residents who depend on the corridor.

The President said the completed road would reduce travel time and transportation costs, improve the movement of agricultural produce and goods, create jobs and attract investment to the region. He also stressed that better infrastructure would contribute to economic growth in Oyo and Ogun states.

The road will be constructed with Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) technology, a method the Federal Government says is intended to provide stronger and more durable roads.

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, also disclosed that President Tinubu had approved the reconstruction and dualisation of the Ibadan–Abeokuta Road, alongside 15 other road projects in the South-West.

The Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode project was awarded on May 5, 2026, and work commenced on July 11, 2026. While reports at the flag-off differed on the precise delivery timeline, the project is officially expected to run through June 10, 2029.

Traditional rulers and other stakeholders welcomed the development, saying the reconstruction would improve commerce, enhance security, reduce accidents and strengthen the economic relationship between communities in Oyo and Ogun states.
