The Governorship Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo State, Hon. Kunle Olatunji KTJ, has called on the people of the state to use their votes in the 2027 general elections to reject what he described as years of incompetent, rudderless and retrogressive governance, urging them to embrace a new era of purposeful leadership, excellent governance and sustainable economic development.
Olatunji expressed concern over what he described as the failure of successive administrations, particularly those led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) now transmuted to Allied People’s Movement (APM), to fully harness the enormous economic potential of Oyo State for the benefit of its people.
He lamented that the state’s development aspirations had been undermined by poor governance, misplaced priorities, wastefulness, unfulfilled promises and missed economic opportunities, insisting that Oyo State deserved a more focused, disciplined, accountable and development-oriented leadership.
According to him, the prevailing realities confronting the people of Oyo State make it imperative for them to critically assess the performance of political parties and their candidates before deciding who should assume the responsibility of governing the state from 2027.
Olatunji described as particularly troubling the apparent lack of empathy, accountability and a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people demonstrated by those entrusted with the responsibility of managing the state’s affairs.
He maintained that the years spent pursuing governance without sufficiently translating the state’s enormous human, economic and institutional resources into broad-based development represented a significant setback to the collective aspirations of the people.
The ADP governorship candidate, however, expressed optimism that Oyo State could regain its position as a leading centre of economic activity, investment, innovation and sustainable development through a deliberate departure from business-as-usual politics and the adoption of a more pragmatic, inclusive and results-oriented approach to governance.
“This is precisely why I have offered myself to serve as the next Governor of Oyo State in 2027. My aspiration is not merely about occupying political office; it is about providing the quality leadership, strategic direction and institutional discipline required to unlock the enormous potential of our state,” Olatunji stated.
He further explained that his administration would be anchored on the philosophy of collectivism, synergetic collaboration and harmonious partnerships with professionals, entrepreneurs, investors, community leaders, organised labour, youths, artisans and other critical stakeholders across the various sectors of the state’s economy.
According to him, the objective would be to build a government that recognises the importance of competence, professional expertise, responsible resource management and collective participation in delivering sustainable economic growth and development.
Olatunji emphasised that Oyo State’s development challenges were not insurmountable, arguing that the missing link had often been the quality of leadership, the capacity to formulate and implement sound policies, and the political will to prioritise the long-term interests of the people above narrow personal or partisan considerations.
He expressed confidence that a government led by the ADP, if entrusted with the people’s mandate in 2027, would pursue a comprehensive repositioning of the state’s economy, strengthen productive sectors, promote investment, create employment opportunities and establish a governance framework capable of delivering inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
He also called on the electorate to recognise the significance of the 2027 elections as an opportunity to redefine the state’s political and economic direction, stressing that meaningful development would require citizens to make informed choices based on competence, character, capacity and a demonstrable commitment to public service.
“It is time for the people of Oyo State to use their votes to reject incompetence, mediocrity and retrogressive governance and embrace a new dawn built on vision, purpose, accountability, empathy and collective responsibility. The future of our state cannot be entrusted to leadership that fails to appreciate the enormous responsibility of governance,” he declared.
He added that his vision was to establish a new order in which government would work collaboratively with the people, professionals and relevant institutions to transform Oyo State into a more economically vibrant, socially inclusive and development-driven state.
Olatunji assured the people that an ADP-led government would represent a decisive departure from the shortcomings of the past, with a renewed commitment to purposeful leadership, excellent governance, human capacity development, economic integration and shared prosperity.
He concluded by urging the people of Oyo State to rise above partisan sentiments and make the right choice in 2027, insisting that the time had come to replace disappointing governance with a credible alternative capable of restoring public confidence and advancing the collective aspirations of the state.
“For me and the team that will form the next ADP-led government, it shall truly be a New Order for a New Dawn. Together, we can reclaim the promise of Oyo State and build a future that works for everyone.
“Say no to horrible governance. Vote for purposeful leadership. Vote for a New Dawn. Oyo State deserves better.”
